What
are two things you found interesting/ useful in the articles or video?
·
Based
on these tips and whay you remember form years past, what are some aspects of
the RHA/NRHH weekly meetings that could be improved?
·
What
are two things that you will utilize or implement in your position for the
upcoming year in regards to the weekly meetings your organization hosts?
1. I found the second article to be the most useful and relatable. One interesting point of view was #2 Be Punctual. The quote "You, the person who showed up on time, are being penalized for doing so. The people who are late, conversely, are being told that their lateness has no consequences" I thought was very insightful. I also thought asking the question, "Is this meeting really necessary?" is a useful question I feel like we forget to ask ourselves sometimes.
ReplyDelete2. We have very strong members in NRHH, which is a greats aspect, but it also can sometimes deteriorate the quality of our conversations. I notice sometimes people may repeat things or keep talking for a couple minutes. I think speaking up is great, but getting to your point is key. That is an area we can definitely improve upon.
3. I think I will try and implement a hard standard that start at 5:45 pm sharp. I will also utilize the minutes as much as possible for our members.
I liked the idea of addressing the important information first. With all that our chapter does, it can be easy to forget to mention something at a meeting. At our exec board meeting prior, we should determine the most important things we want to share with our chapter at the weekly meeting. Another thing I found interesting was to question whether you need to have a meeting or not. I feel like it would be a rare occasion but we could consider cancelling a weekly meeting here and there during busy academic times if sending out an email in replacement would be just as beneficial.
ReplyDeleteI agree with Jamie, that sometimes side conversations and concerns take over our meetings. If possible, I think we should make a habit to remind everyone at the beginning of the meeting of our purpose for getting together and to hold comments until the end to ensure we have an effective meeting.
One thing I will continue to implement after taking Holly's place as treasurer is to come prepared with funding requests and whatnot. This will help the meeting run faster if I do my part and am well prepared! Another thing I think I will do is know, or at least have a rough estimate, of our chapters budget at each meeting. This way people know I am a reliable source for their questions about our chapter's finances. Also, if the topic of budget comes up in a meeting, I am able to give an informed and quick response.
1. After reading the articles and watching the video, I found the second article to be very beneficial. The first important/useful thing I found was to address the important things first. I believe these should be at the top of the agenda so if we need we can spend more time on these topics than on the less important ones. (Like they stated in the article, "get them out of the way, so that if you do run out of time, all you have left are the less important things.") The second important/useful item is to have an objective. I thinking having an objective make the meeting seem more important and will help avoid some side distractions. It will also make the meeting seem more professional and well organized.
ReplyDelete2. I think one aspect that could be improved is avoiding side conversations and side issues. Without these side conversations and issues, we could potentially get more accomplished in the meeting and stay on track.
3. Two things I will implement in the weekly meetings this year will making sure the meetings start on time (at 5:45pm) and having an organized agenda, making sure the important topics get cover first in the meeting.
